Design Thinking is a repeatable discipline of problem-solving for the human impact which includes not just the shaping of physical artefacts but also the ways people interact with products, systems, services, organizations, and even each other. It is an iterative problem-solving process consisting of observation, discovery, immersion, clarification, ideation, and continuous experimentation for validation and refinement. Its simple tools and techniques help gain deep insight into problems and business opportunities and yield workable innovative solutions for many types of organizational, business or social challenges. To true value innovation and strategic differentiation, this capability is invaluable to any business, large or small, local or global. This course will introduce the methods and demonstrate the immense value of Design Thinking to business in product and service strategy, customer acquisition, engagement and retention, employee engagement, and business planning as a whole. On completion of this course, students should understand what Design Thinking is, its benefits, strengths and limitations, the contexts in which it is best applied, and key success factors and gain confidence in applying core Design Thinking tools and methods to real-life situations; learning to adapt and improvise. They will be able to define a personal Design Thinking philosophy and a usable toolkit that is appropriate to the student’s personal and professional context.
