PGPM refers to the SOIL full-time one-year Post-Graduate Program in Management for candidates with at least 24 months of prior work experience.
The PGPM is designed for candidates with a minimum of 2 years of prior work experience who want to have a solid foundation in major business disciplines and core business skills.
The program duration is 12 months. The program has been designed for candidates to return to their working careers faster. It is suitable for professionals who aren’t interested in doing a PGDM program.
The one-year duration is a very common format abroad. Because the program accepts candidates with prior work experience, the college expects a certain level of understanding of business from them. The program is very intensive because students learn almost the same number of subjects as in a 2-year PGDM.
The program enables candidates to get back to their careers faster.
A one-year PGPM is more suited for aspirants with pre-MBA work experience. A one-year program lets you get back to work within a year, and in the second year, you work, earn, and gain valuable post-MBA experience.
A simple ROI calculation is shown below,
One-year course fee – 15 lakhs/ year
Two-year course fee – 8.6 Lakhs/ year
Candidate earns – 4 Lakhs/Year before joining.
Candidate earns – 10 Lakhs/Year immediately after PGPM with 10% increase YOY
Total Gain/Loss for the first 3 years = (opportunity cost – Expense + Salary Income)
For PGPM
Total Gain/Loss would be (-4 – 15 +10 + 11) = 2 Lakhs
For PGDM
Total Gain/Loss would be (-4 -7.5 – 7.5 +9) = -10 Lakhs
We can see why a 1-year MBA has a better ROI than the 2-year MBA with the above example.
Further, one is likely to find a more experienced and mature peer group in a one-year program.
Given that the duration of the program is compressed into one year, the PGPM is demanding and intense, with limited off days and no significant breaks throughout the year.
Having said this, the program is specifically designed for professionals leveraging their experience, and one can cope with the rigour of PGPM with some discipline and hard work.
