  • Why I Decided To Pursue An MBA At SOIL Institute Of Management

Why do people go for an MBA? This question is on top of everybody’s mind who contemplates deciding whether to do an MBA and where. Freshers straight out of college look to add the MBA to their education portfolio to get a managerial start in the corporate world. On the other hand, people from a corporate background pursue an MBA, understanding that the degree/ qualification will immediately result in a promotion or at least an awareness that this is a pathway to make a jump in their career. That makes the decision easier for those who follow this philosophy. These people then tend to take the easiest route through the course to get the degree and leap the gate. The MBA becomes a barrier to overcome, not enrichment activities to engage in. MBA is seen from the lens of a return on investment ‘guarantee’ and this drives their decision.

Why I Decided To Pursue An MBA At SOIL Institute Of Management

Though, no harm in this approach, I did not see myself in this category. So, why did I do an MBA? Why did I undertake the significant risk of pursuing PGPM – a one-year MBA in Human Resource Management at SOIL, given my engineering background and experience in IT Services and that it would mean a break from a stable job?

The key element that drove my decision to pursue the one-year MBA at SOIL was that I wanted to enhance, deepen and broaden the great “people” experiences that drove dynamic, fast-paced, challenging, and growing organizations. I looked at myself as thriving as a people person and my experiences offered little opportunity for introspection or to inculcate learning on how to manage people and take the organization to the next level.

In a nutshell, I was looking at a wider body of knowledge, to be intellectually challenged, challenged by a diverse cohort, and to change me.

In the end, however, I got everything out of the one-year MBA at SOIL that I hoped for and validated my decision. The experience helped me on my journey in my career.

    Why SOIL Institute Of Management

The decision to pursue PGPM – a one-year MBA in HR Management was done and dusted. The next part was to make a logical choice as to the B-school. The search zeroed on SOIL as the best and most accomplished institute in HR.

The institute offered a One Year full-time PGPM program in Human Resource Management. This is the most prestigious one-year MBA course in India for students looking to develop a career in Human Resources. To reinforce my decision was the fact that SOIL has been ranked and recognized by SHRM, the global body for HR Professionals. Thus, the compelling reason for me to choose SOIL was its history of creating global HR leaders and the strong HR legacy it held.

What makes the SOIL Institute of Management special?

During your time at SOIL, your growth path could take you to places and experiences that are unexpected. The one year you spend, takes you through a journey of self-reflection on things that matter most to you and the kind of contribution you want to make in this world. What are the reasons that make the one-year MBA at SOIL so special and sought after? There are several unique experiences that one goes through. To pen them all down may not be possible in my short reflective piece. However, I list some of the key experiences that according to me, make SOIL special.

    • Bold Thinking – Innovative thinkers breed innovative ideas. The future is about innovation and relying on the past to prepare for the future is passé. At SOIL, you have the opportunity to put on the thinking cap and learn from world-renowned researchers, leaders, and an unparalleled faculty.
    • Network And Community Building – SOIL Institute of management encourages an interactive learning process inside and outside the classroom. You meet a diverse community of peers, alumni, mentors, faculty, and industry leaders and build connections for a lifetime. This strong network helps you in the journey to draw on, support, and challenge each other to become the leaders of tomorrow.
    • Empathetic Leadership style – This is a unique trait that the MBA at SOIL inculcates. It teaches the students to lead from the heart and inspire others. SOIL helps you to develop an understanding of how behavior has an impact on people around you and encourages appreciation of a diverse set of audiences and views. The concept of leadership learning helps you to lead with the responsibility to society at large and your organization.
    • Define The Future – A confluence of the top minds at SOIL helps to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to act fearlessly and inspire action. Learning to develop creative solutions makes the students inspired as future change agents of the world.
    • The Unique Pedagogy – SOIL’s learning process influences, and is influenced by, the social, political, and psychological development of students. An integrated classroom and Case Discussion method of teaching helps to build inquisitive minds that do not rest on the past but look at innovation as the way forward. Integration with Social Innovation Program (SIP), the one-year MBA draws on experiential learning to build leaders with character, competence, and enthusiasm.

    My Final Take On SOIL

The one-year MBA at SOIL helps me transition my career from an engineering role to Human Resource Management. Having worked with HCL Technologies and Delloite India, I am currently placed as a Human Resources Specialist in Bain & Company, one of the world’s premier consulting organizations. I continue to realize my vision of being responsible for organizational outcomes through the management of the most valuable business asset – people.

So, be a part of the SOIL advantage and realize the vision of widening your body of knowledge. Take advantage of its learning experiences through Innovative Learning Design, Locational advantage, Social Innovation Program, and Mentorship sessions to come out as a leader with character, competence, and enthusiasm. As the world transitions to responsible business, you will be able to contribute to the triple bottom line of social wellbeing, ecological sustainability, and stakeholder value.
