Adaptive Learning – Learn to Manage, Manage to Learn

With high hopes to study, meet new people, make new friends, learn and grow together, I joined SOIL Institute of Management. Never knew that a sudden outbreak of a pandemic would strike the world, and the rise of the ‘New Normal’ would take place. Even in this scenario, my institute SOIL quickly changed and adapted to the digital world. The faculty here with a vision to build leaders with character, competence & enthusiasm, was proactive and began digital classes from 22nd April 2020 as scheduled.

Studying digitally is challenging but also the need of the hour; it is helping us in inculcating the skills needed for emerging opportunities in business, and SOIL is preparing us for that. We always speak about transformation; I too knew that I would transform after a year, but to my surprise, the change is visible even in the initial months. In approximately three months, through digital platforms, I am grasping knowledge, gaining confidence, taking leadership roles, organizing events, participating in different activities, and most importantly building beautiful relationships. Even though the virtual medium, the faculty effectively converse with each one of us and encourage participative learning. The professors at SOIL are extremely co-operative. They not only teach us but also mentor us whenever we need them. They gave us plenty of time to build on our foundations and then moved on to Term One courses. Their prime focus is to encourage learning and develop necessary skills through participation, group assignments, experiential immersions and presentations.

One of the beautiful aspects of this virtual platform is the ongoing ritual of Morning Circle, which we students thoroughly enjoy. It is a practice of half an hour daily, where students and faculty connect on a personal level. Every week three to four students take the onus of organizing the Morning Circle in creative ways. Our day starts with a morning prayer, thoughts, inspiring stories, sharing each other’s experiences, showing our hidden talents, and participating in various activities. This Morning Circle makes us feel like a family where all of us get to speak and listen to others with a sense of unity.

Apart from the digital classes that we attend, SOIL has taken great effort to organize the virtual Leadership series – “Becoming the Best Version of Yourself”; where SOIL Founder & Chairman, Mr. Anil Sachdev, hosts weekly webinars and has an engaging dialogue with Industry leaders from around the globe. These leadership sessions help us to understand the necessary skills that a true leader should possess. Every life is different, every individual is different, every situation is different, but the qualities are the same that every leader has. SOIL has given us that platform to be such an inspired leader with those qualities.

Since the initial days of our virtual classes, the Career Services team has actively been communicating with us, taking sessions on building resumes, conducting mock group discussions, and helping each one of us to prepare for our future interviews. They also organized development centres for us virtually to help us identify our strengths and weakness. The digital platform has not been any hindrance to our personal growth, but it is an opportunity that is upskilling us with the emerging requirements in the workforce in the new normal.

Every decision in life comes with its challenges and struggles, and this is what makes an individual stronger. Being a mother of a seven years old, I am juggling the roles of a mother, a wife and a student. Indeed, it is not an easy task, but nothing good comes easy. The charm is to manage everything positively and with enthusiasm, and this is what we are being taught at SOIL. Self-leadership classes, yoga, wellness, and spirituality classes are a few of the additional courses which help me stay positive and work towards my goals. For me, the digital journey at SOIL has been amazing. With the help of my beautiful family, the amazing faculty and my dear batchmates – the Harmonizers at SOIL, I am motivated to accomplish my desired goal
