Now, let us examine in detail the PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) and PGPM (post Graduate Programme in Management) formats

    PGDM

The PGDM programme, spread over two years, is good for candidates who are straight out of college (freshers) or with a few years of work experience and who wish to pursue a management career. The programme gives the student an immersive and extensive exposure to management concepts along with internships and experiential immersions that will help develop their personal and professional goals. The idea is to develop a well-rounded personality, ready to take on the rigours of the corporate/ business world.

    Admissions

Usually, intake to this programme is dependent on a good academic background. In addition, an aspirant’s application is to be supported by GMAT/ CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ SNAP/ NMAT Scores. The shortlisted applicant then has to go through a evaluation process before being considered for admission.

    Pedagogy

In a typical PGDM programme, the first year is dedicated to knowledge on the foundation of management. The idea is to help students gain integrated learning and exposure across all functional areas and increase their awareness. In addition, the student may be able to develop their specialisation preferences. Typically, the PGDM covers the following basic core functional courses in the first year: Marketing, Finance, Operations, Finance, Analytics and Human Resources, etc. In the second year also known as the specialisation year, students choose electives to gain in-depth knowledge on their preferred subjects. The popular areas of specialisation are Marketing, Finance, Analytics & Human Resources

    Advantages

The PGDM programme gives flexibility to the student to work through and develop their preferences as the course progresses. It has been seen that younger learners are less biased by their existing knowledge and are inherently more flexible and exploratory. Exposure to internships gives an additional dimension for the student as they gain meaningful industry exposure. Many a time, they manage to draw job offers on the basis of their performance in their internships. Besides, internships provide an opportunity to work in the industry under the mentorship of skilled professionals.

    Placements

There are a host of employment opportunities in the industry after completing a PGDM course. Starting as a management professional in the corporate world in any business scenario offers multiple opportunities.

    PGPM

PGPM is a one-year MBA course that mandatorily looks at a work experience of two to five years. Since the PGPM course looks to derive benefit and build on the work experience of the candidate, meaningful experience is the key. The idea is to enable the candidate to realise their ambition and leapfrog their career. Doing a PGPM course, after one has been working for some time, it is a big decision for some. The quandary of opportunity cost as one has to forego stable earnings and the fact that the course is extensive, and requiring dedication, makes it a choice that every aspirant has to make with some thought.

Top 10 MBA Specialization in india

    Cost & ROI

The fee for a one year MBA in PGPM varies from institute to institute but the ROI is quite high. At SOIL, every year during Placement season, we see an ROI of 200%+ as a hike in the salary received post MBA for our students.

    Admissions

At SOIL, the intake to the PGPM course is generally based on the candidates overall profile, and not just their exam scores or academic record. There is an encouraging evaluation process designed by the institute to ensure the best fit for each student to the course. Entrance scores like CAT/ GMAT etc. are optional and may add to the applicant’s profile.

    Pedagogy

The PGPM course is normally spread over three terms. The initial term looks to provide the student a refresher on the basics of business studies like in the PGDM course. The rest of the term/s are devoted to specialisation tracks and advanced learning, as well as integrated learning. There is also special emphasis on Experiential learning, Mentorship programs, Leadership sessions and Individual Development. The popular specialisations are in the areas of Finance, Analytics, Marketing and Human Resources.

    Advantages

After the PGPM course, students acquire conceptual skills along with the synergy of the collective experience of batchmates with a diverse background. This gives an added dimension to learning through case discussions, capstone projects, group evaluations, live projects, social work and more. These help the student to gain meaningful insights in their personal and professional growth. Suited for working professionals who are ambitious or individuals who want to acquire entrepreneurial skills, this programme provides just the right platform.

    Placements

PGPM course is gaining in popularity with companies hiring professionals who have completed this course since it is focused and industry specific. The fact that students already have relevant work experience also helps during placements. Corporates look to hire professionals for middle / higher management roles depending on their profiles with high CTCs and exciting roles.
