    One of the important factors that applicants consider when selecting an MBA programme is the role of the faculty at the business school. It may be pertinent to note that the primary sources for dissemination of knowledge and providing inspiration to students are experienced professors AND expert guest lecturers. They bring forth a confluence of knowledge in business and managerial experience that enables them to translate discussions to relatable subject matter. Besides, a diverse and highly qualified faculty provides a robust environment which creates an environment for networking and professional opportunities.

    A vibrant faculty community keeps teaching at the institution relevant by being involved in policy and innovation, refining the curriculum to meet industry standards, thereby providing an excellent educational experience for the student. It is, thus, important for students to realize the importance of negotiation, presentation, teamwork, and leadership skills, qualities that are brought forth by an experienced faculty through their unique skills and knowledge.     Gurveer Singh Jaswal

    GURVEER SINGH JASWAL
    • Designation: Associate Dean
    • Academic Area: Strategy & Finance

    Prof. Jaswal has 19 years of prior experience in the BFSI sector across diverse products such as Commercial Vehicle Lending, Unsecured Lending, Equity & Commodity Broking before joining SOIL. He has worked with strong brands like Kotak Securities, Standard Chartered & ICICI Bank and has rich experience in the fintech ecosystem. As part of his journey in the financial world, he has been involved in incubation and growth of business segments and has assumed leadership roles across these. He has expertise in team building across diverse business channels and geographies. Currently he is leveraging his vast experience and expertise and is involved in teaching strategic management, banking & financial services management and digital finance/fintech.

    FinTechs and their DIY platforms are revolutionizing the Indian Banking Ecosystem. The fintech/ digital finance world is undergoing a radical transformation, not only in India but worldwide. There is a tremendous opportunity for young management professionals to look at mentors and experienced professionals to guide them in this emerging area. With his background and rich experience in the area, he brings to the table a plethora of strengths in Strategic Management & Banking. Combined with this is his past experience in teambuilding and leadership skills with a focus on Marketing of Financial Services, Digital Lending Strategies & Fintech Ecosystem in India/World. This presents an opportunity to management professionals/ aspirants to draw insights from their knowledge bank and look at emerging opportunities in the area.

    Arjya Chakravarty

    ARJYA CHAKRAVARTY
    • Designation – Program Chair and Professor of HR & OB
    • Academic Area – Human Resources & Leadership

    A Management practitioner who has 26 years’ experience in Human Resource Management, Prof. Arjya Chakravarty is currently the Program Chair for the one year MBA in Human Resource Management (PGPM-HR) at SOIL. Her vast experience of 11 years in the human Resource Management function has spread over several Leadership roles in Automobile, Manufacturing, FMCG and BPO sectors. In addition, she has a background of teaching, research and consulting for 16 years. Having spent the latter part of her career working with b-schools, she has coached young professionals in subjects like Change Management, Learning and Development, Employee Engagement, Leadership, Managing Organizational Change, Organizational Design, Gender and Inclusion. She continues to interface with the corporate world by undertaking Consulting assignments along with the Consulting team at SOIL.

    She is a dedicated teacher and has a unique teaching style that focuses on ‘learning mindset’ and ‘experiential learning’. She has been instrumental in curating a unique curriculum design that has taken management learning to a different level through a course that includes Liberal Arts, Business and Design Thinking.

    She sits on the panel of Committees of MNCs as an external member for Gender Diversity initiatives. Besides, she devotes considerable energy and time to research on the topic of ‘gender’ and ‘generations’. Her papers and cases have been published in international publications and she has also participated in International Conferences.

    For the subjects she teaches at SOIL, it is important for her to traverse the longitude of classical literature. In the process she also nudges her students to imbibe contemporary perspectives. In the bargain, it helps students to understand their choices and argue fearlessly, to unlearn and relearn. As a result, even the most outlier comments in the class are contemplated upon. Her teaching style is replete with a thought process that is built on a discovery for students that there are many a question for one answer, and many an answer for one question. The process of learning in Prof. Chakravarty is one that is built on a methodology that is built on inquisitiveness, challenging established norms and creating a vibrant culture. Studying with this Rockstar teacher is sure to create value for the student and in the long run for prospective employers.     Atindra Nath Bhattacharya

    ATINDRA NATH BHATTACHARYA
    • Designation – Professor of Marketing & Social Innovation
    • Academic Area – Marketing & Sales

    Prof A.N. Bhattacharya had prior industry experience of 18 years in the business world with brands including AMUL, Dhara, Vadilal etc. He then transitioned into academia and has been involved in teaching the nuances of marketing to young management professionals. He draws on his repertoire to teach modules on Marketing Management, Consumer Behavior, Sales Force Management, Channel Management, Retail Management, Rural Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Social Innovation. This is also brought about with his interest in the Development Sector and thus, Social innovation is part of his bag of teaching. He has published several research papers and books over time on diverse subjects such as retail marketing and sectoral development etc.

    He is also actively engaged in consulting with corporates in designing end-to-end solutions through in-depth problem diagnosis, gap analysis, designing training interventions, delivery, and post-delivery impact analysis. His client list includes reputed companies such as- Mondelez, Engineer India Ltd., Pfizer, Gabriel India Ltd., Victor Gaskets, Spicer India Ltd, etc.

    With his two decade-long marketing experience in the consumer industry, Prof. Bhattacharya brings real-life examples and practicality to his andragogy at SOIL. His regular stints at consulting help him to connect and be abreast of real-life business world problems. For the consulting assignments he takes on, he uses student teams to design and provide strategic inputs for business planning/ modeling, go-to-market strategies, and addressing scaling up challenges. This gives insight to students and helps them to learn about functional marketing through real life case models. His interest in consulting with start-up SMEs and NGOs helps students to develop perspectives that go beyond classroom learning. A veteran of the program, his biggest talent is to separate teaching subject matter from helping a student learn it. When he helps a student learn subject matter, he puts himself in their shoes. Surely, he brings fun to the classroom and the reward? you see students grow and develop in front of him.
