  • THE SIP TALES FROM SOIL

“Social Intervention Program ( SIP ) at SOIL is focused on the social sector and social inclusivity to ensure that each Soilite transforms as a compassionate leader. It is pertinent for a business leader to comprehend the realities of the development sector. The social sector plays a vital role in human development. With this intent, the School of Inspired Leadership has incorporated the Social Innovation Program into its curriculum as an integral course. As part of this program, student teams will work with organizations committed towards building a better world. These could be government run organizations, nonprofits, for profit social ventures or education institutions. Each student team will work on specific projects which will be chosen depending on the most critical need areas of the organisation as mutually decided by the organization and the student team. These will be signed off by the SIP faculty as well.”

    WE THE PEOPLE

The fundamental rights were my sources of early inspiration and curiosity.I chose the NGO ‘WE THE PEOPLE’- working towards empowering Indian citizens relating to the constitution’s core values. I considered this the best manner to be involved with a movement providing platforms to citizens in making lives equal, free, and dignified. Getting the opportunity to formulate citizenship education-programs and to create curriculums for school students remains unparalleled.I took on a myriad of projects in sync with management, but the core learning I attained was-‘Nobody can infringe on your rights; the constitution is our guide in ever-changing India. Use it EVERYDAY.

    CMCA

CMCAI chose CMCA since I loved the idea behind it and the energy a teacher from there carried. The versatile work, from data analysis, research, and surveys to making YouTube videos and organizing events at college, made the journey special and memorable. An amazing learning was never to say no to any new work, for every work gives new knowledge and a takeaway for life. Its tagline “Spark Change” carries a powerful message, and I feel it is important to imbibe it to leave the right impact. I am still connected with CMCA and intend on maintaining this heartfelt association

    EARTH SAVIOUR FOUNDATION

    EARTH SAVIOUR FOUNDATION

I was fortunate that I was allocated with Earth Saviour Foundation which helps different people who are abandoned senior citizens, mentally disabled, bed ridden people, HIV infected, people suffering with incurable disease, and other less privileged people. There my goal was to help them with fundraising and marketing, visiting multiple rural schools, educate students about sanitations, and internally my day usually went by doing “Seva”. What I learned from this experience is when we create value for others who may not be associated with us, you gain empathy and blessings of those who find happiness in you.

    WE THE PEOPLE

    WE THE PEOPLE

I chose the NGO WE THE PEOPLE since spreading the spirit of The Indian Constitution appealed to me. It teaches sessions in urban and backward areas. Attainment of the required skills was an arduous yet interesting task. Making contributions to support backend tasks- finances, documentation, and analysis through surveys meant lots to me.

    -Varun Mathur

‘Meeting those young minds and interacting with them stirred up a feeling that I was a small component in the process of contributing back to the system which brought us here in the first place, and I feel this is what the SOIL SIP is all about.’

    -Varun Mathur

    EARTH SAVIOUR FOUNDATION

Why did I choose to serve The Earth Saviours?

I saw the movie “Bagwaan” and always criticized the theme of the movie. I always thought that in the ” So-called emotionally- driven society like ours where parents are prayed”; However, this is not true. After I started interacting with kaki’s/Tau/Mama (relations I built there), I realized that the hypocrisy exists and it has got a brutal face that will shake you from within just on hearing about it. I learned I still do not have an understanding of the hardships of life.

I am still associated with the NGO and had recently visited the NGO to donate things and got to know half of the people I met last year are no more and they had no one but the NGO people and tent mates with them.
If you want to see real-life struggles up close, try to serve here.If you succeed you will have a very different view on your life’s purpose to serve to.

    EARTH SAVIOUR FOUNDATION

    EARTH SAVIOUR FOUNDATION

My experience in The Earth Saviors Foundation was more than just volunteering. In TESF I got to learn the harsh realities of life which no MBA institute will ever teach you. It taught me how people survive when even the slightest urge to live is lost because of the deeds of people who you gave birth to. Just because of some mental and physical illness, you are no longer considered a part of the family, and so you are abandoned. One also gets to find men and women there who have vowed to be there together. My work in TESF, every Wednesday, was to spread happiness by cracking jokes to make them laugh, holding their hands and just sitting in that same position for hours listening to their stories and feelings, crying with them and even sharing their Parle G’s and bananas. There were few kakis who treated us like their own kids and few even wanted to go on a date with us. There were Kakas and uncle who used to play ludo and carrom with us. Those people became my friends who were gone very far by the time I could meet them next week. TESF taught me that nothing in this life is permanent. You never know when things change and you will be left all alone. Your own people will become the reason for your misery. So always stay strong and enjoy every moment of your life. Be happy with what you have because I am sure whoever is reading it has more than what those people in TESF have.

    CMCA

    CMCA

Like every B-School student who works for an organization, I aspired to learn management skills helping CMCA grow its operations but my experience with CMCA has helped me grow more as an individual than it has taught me professionally. My work at CMCA was not confined to Business Development, but included creating video tutorials for children and voice over for their chatbot. It’s the creative part that I cherish the most and my interactions with the camera and children instilled in me childlike curiosity, patience and gave a different perspective to life. Working for a cause has made me realize my responsibilities towards society. As it is rightly said “We all have ability. The difference is how we use it” I feel proud of my work and efforts and above all, I am thankful to my Alma mater for giving me this opportunity worth remembering.

‘Compassion and intelligence walk together; they are not separate. Compassion acts through intelligence. It can never act through the intellect. Compassion is the essence of the Wholeness of Life.’ – from the book, ‘ The Whole Movement of Life’
