  • Self-Leadership Field Visit – What I Learnt

As part of the Self-Leadership class taught by our Founder & Chairman, Sh. Anil Sachdev, the SOIL PGPM students recently went on a outdoor field exercise to learn from communities of secular worship. In groups, they chose a place of worship that they never visited to feel the oneness between the life giving force within them & the energy of the place of worship.

    Self-Leadership Field Visit

These experiential immersions foster tolerance, empathy, and respect for people from different backgrounds, and promote a deeper understanding of the role that religion plays in shaping societies and cultures.

Each student group went to either a Church, Temple, Mosque, Synagogue or Gurudwara. They explored the place, its rituals & visitors and later congregated at the Lodhi Garden to share their experiences through learning circles.

By visiting these institutes, students can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the values, traditions, and beliefs of different religions, and how these shape the lives of people and communities. In addition, this practice helps students develop critical thinking skills, as they learn to compare and contrast different religious practices and beliefs.

The day started early, as we were asked to arrive at the assigned religious place by 9:00 am. Our first hour was spent in silence or meditation, giving us a chance to reflect and calm our minds. This was followed by an hour of exploration, where we interacted with people and learned about the uniqueness of each place.

    visited Jama Masjid

One of the places we visited was Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India. It was fascinating to learn about the history and significance of the mosque and to see the intricate carvings and decorations. Another highlight of the day was visiting the Iskcon Temple, where we learned about the teachings of Lord Krishna and the principles of Bhakti Yoga.

The visit to the Birla Mandir was also a memorable experience. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva and is known for its beautiful architecture and peaceful atmosphere. At the Bangla Sahib, we learned about the significance of the gurdwara and the teachings of Sikhism.

The visit to the World Buddhist Centre was particularly eye-opening. We learned about the different schools of Buddhism and the role of meditation in the practice. At the Main Church, we learned about the history of Christianity in India and the significance of the church.

The visit to Hazrat Nizamuddin was also a unique experience. It is a shrine dedicated to the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya and is known for its beautiful architecture and peaceful atmosphere. The visit to the Chinmaya Mission was a chance to learn about the teachings of Hinduism and the role of meditation in the practice.

visit to the Shish Ganj gurudwara

The visit to Shish Ganj gurudwara in Chandni Chowk was a powerful experience. The gurdwara is dedicated to the memory of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, and is known for its rich history and peaceful atmosphere. The Sai Baba Mandir in Lodhi Road was also a fascinating visit. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu saint Sai Baba and is known for its beautiful architecture and peaceful atmosphere. We learned about the teachings of Sai Baba and his message of love, compassion, and selflessness.

The visit to the was a unique experience. The synagogue is one of the oldest in India and is a testament to the rich history of the Jewish community in India. We learned about the significance of the synagogue and the history of the Jewish people in India.

Lunch was served at Lodhi Garden, and it was a great opportunity to connect with each other and share our experiences from the morning. During lunch, our founder Mr. Anil Sachdev, Mrs. Vijaya, and other faculty members were also present. Each group was given the opportunity to share their experiences in front of them, which was a great chance to reflect on what we had learned and to hear about the experiences of others.

In conclusion, the self-leadership field visit was a valuable experience that allowed us to broaden our understanding of different cultures and traditions. The opportunity to share our experiences with the founder, faculty members, and other participants was a great chance to reflect on what we had learned and to connect with others.
