The world has been taken by storm in recent times by ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer), a conversational AI-powered chatbot. Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT has been built on a model that uses Supervised and Reinforcement learning techniques to mimic human responses. The program skims the vast repository of the internet to generate responses to queries made on its platform.

Adaptability-Currency of The Future of Work

ChatGPT allows users to type in queries or create content tasks. The response is incredibly unique and fast. This is leading to a revolution of sorts and going forward could change education and the way business is done. While repetitive business tasks may benefit, the cerebral inputs to the business may suffer.

While the ethical debate continues, it may be worthwhile to examine the role of Artificial Intelligence in business.

The world has been taken by storm in recent times by the ChatGPT allows users to type in queries or create content tasks. has been built on a model that uses Supervised and Reinforcement learning techniques to mimic human responses.

AIML And Its Role In Business

AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) is the programming language used to develop artificial intelligence applications. The key feature of AIML allows the programmer to create a human interface that is easy to code and simple to maintain. Many organizations have chatbots on their sites for repetitive tasks and they find extensive usage, especially in banking, airlines, and e-commerce. Virtual assistants like Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant use this technology to interact with users/ customers. As chatbots evolve, they look to offer complex and advanced features. Chatbots are getting increasingly context-aware and are trying to engage with customers accordingly.

Besides AIML is being extensively used in areas like

    • Robots.
    • Self-driving cars.
    • Smart assistants.
    • Healthcare
    • Automated investing

Businesses are increasingly putting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to work to improve their productivity, profitability, and business results. Undoubtedly, Artificial intelligence is here to stay and transform the way business is done.

    Or is it..?

AIML allows the programmer to create a human interface that is easy to code and simple to maintain. are getting increasingly context-aware and are trying to engage with customers accordingly.

    The Disadvantages of AIML

There are certain barriers and disadvantages to keep in mind in its use in business. Let us take a look at some of these in the context of the complex demands of business decision-making and strategy.

    AI Is Emotionless

Machines that are capable of completing tasks for which they have been programmed. Anything beyond that, they frequently fail or provide useless results leading to negative effects. The need for human touch and interpersonal relationships cannot be replicated in any machine. For instance, in marketing, the need for emotional intelligence is essential. Human perspectives are things data and analytics do not consider and hence AIML does not have the wherewithal to tackle this crucial element. Similarly in tackling human resources, interpersonal relationships that strengthen a team are disregarded. Machines are unable to bond with people and replicate human emotion, something that is crucial in team management.

    AI Lacks Creativity

It is given that machines cannot match human creativity, intelligence, and abilities. AI-powered machines/devices are driven by historical data and thus depend on the analytics of the creator and his algorithms. This lack of creativity means that AI-powered devices are unable to create new solutions to problems or develop novel ideas in a rapidly changing and dynamic business environment.

Machines certainly will be unable to overtake humans in the ability to be creative. As businesses look for a new or creative solution, humans would be better capable of that score. Thus, AIML-powered devices are constrained by rules and algorithms and do not exhibit human-level creativity.

    Lacks Empathy

While empathy is a part of emotional intelligence, it is discussed separately since it is a top relationship-building skill business leaders need to have. Empathy in the business context can take various forms. The need for the business leader to put himself in others’ shoes and see the world from their perspective, whether it is the customer or the co-workers/ team members, is of primary importance.

“You can’t have ‘human-like’ intelligence (AGI) without personality or emotions. People don’t change behavior on information, they change it on emotion, emotional intelligence, and empathy”– Steve Ardire, AI startup Advisor

AI-powered machines tend to overlook this key factor as they rely on statistics and facts, not emotions. AI systems cannot imitate or mimic empathy since AI systems are not human.

Here are a few barriers and disadvantages of AIML to keep in mind while using it in business.

One-Year MBA PGPM At SOIL – Filling The Gap

As the business world undergoes a radical and dynamic change, it is critical to realize that they are run by humans and not by machines. While machines are adjunct to the efficient running of businesses, they cannot replace human leadership that can empathize, something that is important to the success of the business.

Bridging empathy into the culture of the organization will deliver effective benefits to the business. The long-term survival and strategic growth of the businesses will be driven by human leadership and not pure technology.

    Conclusion

While there is no doubt that AI is good at repetitive tasks, it will never have “a soul”. In that sense, it will be unable to replace human leadership qualities that let people be creative and have different perspectives.

As Hans Moravec articulated in Moravec’s paradox:

What is easy for humans is difficult for AI, and what is difficult for humans seems rather easy for AI.

Thus, we draw an important conclusion that in the future developments of humans, training in soft skills will become even more important.

AIML will NEVER be able to replace human leadership qualities that let people be creative and have different perspectives.
