MBA is now a household concept in the Indian academic scenario. A large number of candidates vie for limited seats in traditional two-year MBA programs, across the country. However, over the past few years, the full-time, one year management courses in India have been making ripples among aspirants too.

Significance of One Year MBA in India, future & Top B-schools

Most management aspirants struggle to understand what is MBA? and how is it any different from the One Year MBA in India?

Sounds like you? Well, Good news! All your doubts regarding the differences between MBA and One Year MBA in India will be cleared right here.

As is evident from the name itself, the one year MBA programs in India are scheduled for a shorter time as compared to other traditional two year programs. However, that is certainly not the only difference. The most prominent distinction is that of the admission criteria of MBA in one year courses and 2 year MBA programs:

    • Applicants accepted in the two-year programs may or may not have prior work experience. Their admission to the institute often solely depends on their CAT scores and performance in the GDPI process.
    • On the other hand, usually One Year MBA programs follow a more holistic approach towards enrollment. Aspirants are required to have a minimum of 2 years of work experience before applying. The admission process also focuses on several criteria such as extracurricular interests and leadership potential, rather than test scores alone.

Although the duration may be shorter, the one year MBA in India is in no way less rigorous when compared to the two-year MBA. In fact, due to the limited time period, the 1 year mba course tends to be more intensive. As candidates are familiar with a corporate set-up, certain non-essential theoretical concepts can easily be excluded.

Evolution of One Year MBA program in India –

Internationally the one year MBA has been highly valued by students. In India, till a decade ago, it was the two year program that reigned supreme. Now however the applicant base has shifted from fresh graduates to working professionals re-evaluating their career graphs. These professionals are keen on reskilling themselves in a short time span and returning to a workplace of their choice. The one year MBA courses in India gives them the necessary skills, exposure and confidence to return as leaders. The time spent in the classroom work is well balanced with action learning projects, volunteering opportunities, experiential immersions and team activities.

Why opt for a One year MBA program? What are the Advantages of a One Year PGPM course in India?

The most obvious benefit of enrolling in a one year MBA course is its duration. For a working professional there is nothing better than this because even as they are investing time and effort, they can get back to their respective careers faster. Also, the professionals who quit their job to pursue the one year Post Graduate Programme in Management – PGPM course, have to pay a relatively lower amount of tuition fees. Since many students go for study loans to finance their MBA study, this results in a shorter payback time. An MBA in one year saves time and lets you resume your working career equipped with additional education and expertise.

    • As mentioned earlier, one of the positives of a one year MBA in India is the reduced opportunity cost in terms of time and money. Enrolled in an intensive course, you learn the same as you would in a two-year curriculum. What’s more, you save on a year’s worth of educational expenses.
    • One year MBA candidates are required to have a certain amount of work experience, as opposed to aspirants of traditional MBA courses in India. Some of the leading MBA programs completed in a year are offered at ISB, IIMA- PGPX, IIMB- EPGP, IIMC- PGPEX, XLRI -GMP and SOIL. Consequently, the candidates become eligible for managerial and leadership positions after the completion of MBA, and naturally go up the corporate ladder with higher emoluments.
    • These courses are offered by the top most institutes and one year MBA colleges in India. Some of these have also been highly rated in the prestigious rankings of the Financial Times, London. Enrolling in the course offers great exposure and opportunities.
